Southern Parties Walk out Report - Mona Al Bashir Juba conference which was expected to wrap up its activities yesterday seemed to be inconclusive as it failed to reach an agreed upon vision in respect of the issues embraced in its agenda such as the financial crisis and oil, due to disputes among participant political parties.
Political Parties Council disclosed a document that proves inclusion of six illegitimate political parties in the conference following the walk out of six southern political parties that recoded 12 violations against the conference and accused participants of undermining the CPA. Influential Southern Political parties accuse western humanitarian organizations working in Sudan that they financed activities of the current Juba conference.
Labor Party Chairman, James Andrea said that the foreign NGOs, instead of financing humanitarian activities in affected areas in Jonglei, and Malakal have transferred funds for political purposes like Juba conference. He said his party considers the conference a historical sin aimed at fragmenting nation’s unity, adding that his party would never get involved in this historical sin. For his part SPLM-DC Political Party chief, Lam Akol, branded the conference as an attempt to push Sudan into a dark tunnel.
He cited that participants to the conference lack common vision and have no program of action respecting what they want to do. "If the conference doesn’t condemn absence of freedom in the South, I will say the conference is nonsensical and aimless," said Akol. However, he stated that the conference organizers had ignored inviting influential political parties in the south and extended invitations to opposition parties only. He stressed that the conference lacked consensus as it had ignored participation of southern political parties. In a statement to "Alkhartoum" Arabic Daily, Egyptian Ambassador to Sudan, Afefi Alsayed Abdalwahab, said that the Egyptian role in connection with the Sudanese crucial issues would not be trivial, stressing his endeavors to reconcile divergent political powers' views. He urges the two partners to Sudan rule to work out disputed issues for the sake of a sound and fair implementation of the CPA, particularly its components of elections and self-determination referendum. "We hear about efforts led by VP Ali Osman Mohammed Taha and GoSS Deputy President, Dr. Machar within the scope of the Higher Joint committee. We hope they will reach a positive conclusion in the right direction," concluded the Ambassador.
