MTN Sponsors Workshop on Information Systems, Its Impact on Sudan Economy

Khartoum – Staff Writer MTN Telecommunication Company has sponsored a workshop on information systems and its impact on Sudanese economy. The workshop was organized by the College of Information Technology, University of Juba,
in carrying on its pioneer role in supporting education activities in Sudan. This workshop was the first of its kind in Sudan dealing with economic impact ensuing from a tremendous development in the infrastructure of information systems in the country.
The workshop debated the several papers presented by a number of information technology experts in Sudan and overseas. It was attended by a great deal of students, individuals interested in information systems sector; besides, a considerable number of local and foreign TV channels.
Osman Awad Saleh noted in his speech at the opening session, which was graced by Prof. Peter Adwok Nyaba, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, that the company was honored to sponsor a workshop on information technology, which they wished to be the beginning and introduction to such technology which had become nerve and spirit of all enterprises of the world of today.
He added that MTN was proud of its constant involvement in telecommunication world, information, linking towns to suburbs and outside world via its network extending to all Sudanese towns and villages, and, that the workshop was regarded as a great boost to this active and vital field.
Through its coverage over the past five years, MTN has been able to provide a lot in telecommunication world as well as other scopes by introducing up-to-date telecommunication technologies by virtue of which various universities and educational institutes positively benefited from those technologies. Many commerce chambers as well as other sectors inside Sudan and abroad have also considerably made use of such technologies.
It is worth noting that the opening session of the workshop was addressed by the State Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Mubarak Ahmed of National Center for Information, Dr. Manar Abdra Rahman, Dr. Joshua Akol, Prof. Aggrey Abate Lemi, Vice-chancellor of University of Juba and Dr. Usama Arrayis, Chairman of Board of Directors of Africa for Technology.
