Government Regrets Slowdown of Donors, Southern Kordofan Free of Weapons

The Sudanese Government expressed deep regret of the slowdown of donors in the UN in supporting the implementation of CPA programmes. Presidential Affairs Minister, Chairman of the National Council for  DDR Coordination,


Lieutenant General Bakri Hassan Salih said that the donor countries had announced in the first donors conference to provide $ 430 million while it committed in the second one, held in Juba to provide $88 million but it had provided only $ 27 million.
 

He said, during the roundtable conference, held in Kadugli yesterday with the participation of the UN and donor countries, said that the peace has become reality and that the war has ended but it had devastated the infrastructures and that represent a challenge and a major obstacle in the way of peace calling for the necessity of contributing in rehabilitation programmes, creating opportunities for health and education, fight against AIDS and to support DDR programmes in addition to the issues of the children, disabled and women.
 

The Minister called on the UN to meet the budgets allocated for the said programmes for the last years and the current one and the necessity of participation of both North and South Commissions in choosing the UN cadres in implementing the said programme projects.
 

UN SG representative in Sudan Ashraf Qazi affirmed the importance of implementing the DDR programmes for its importance in maintaining security and stability indicating to the efforts exerted by both Sudanese commissions in the said regard.
 

Southern Kordofan Governor Ahmed Haroun said that the convening of the said conference in his state affirmed the value of the joint work between the partners in implementing the said programs, which include the security stability, elections, peace building, and unity.
The conference witnessed the announcement of South Kurdofan a free of arms state as 8307 elements from SAF, SPLA and Popular Defence Forces handed their arms and the concerned parties burnt some of the arms as an indication of announcing the state free of arms.
