Egypt, China Express Interest to Monitor Election in Sudan

Staff Writer In their separate meetings with the deputy chairman of the National Election Commission (NEC), ambassadors of Egypt and China have expressed interest to participate in monitoring elections in Sudan.
Prof. Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah said that the Chinese ambassador expressed keenness of his country with the election process and the democratic transformation in Sudan affirming that election is a significant shift in the Sudanese march. He indicated that China has provided a technical and financial support and showed its interest to have a monitoring mission in the upcoming elections. He added that the commission has briefed the ambassador by the monitoring requirements in order for the ambassador to make the needed communications with his country to send the monitoring mission. He further added that the commission continues to enforce the electoral schedule and it has not received request from the political parties to postpone the elections. On another context, the Egyptian ambassador, Afifi Abdul Wahab, said that Egypt is taking notice with whatever is going on in Sudan especially with regard to Elections and Democratic transformation affirming that Egypt is working to create suitable climate for having free and fair elections. He added that Egypt mulls sending monitoring mission to Sudan and went on saying that as one of the guarantors of the CPA, Egypt is giving the election process a top concern.
