SPLM Requests Its Independent Candidates Withdrawal
Posted on Tuesday, February 09 @ 00:00:00 UTC by admin

 Khartoum- Al Sammani Awadallah
The Sudan Peoples' Liberation Movement (SPLM) last Sunday requested its  leadership figures who defected the party to run the national and South Sudan-levels parliamentary elections as independent candidates to withdraw their nominations for the sake of unity of the Movement.

In a press conference in Juba, SPLM Secretary General Pagan Amum, said, "We request them to withdraw their candidacy and support the official nominees for the unity of the party," adding, "We do not want the party to fraction because of the contest for power."

Dissidents have been given a grace period until the commencing of electoral process on the 13th of current month. "Otherwise, measures will be taken  against  those who would refuse to adhere to the request," concluded  Amum.
Meanwhile, the Movement leadership figure, State Minister for Energy and Mining, Angelina Teny sticks to her position as an independent contestant to the seat of the Unity State governor, despite nomination of Taban Deng Gai by the SPLM.
Teny told Sudan Vision that her insistence has been in response to the wish of the people down there who are not satisfied with the nomination of Deng, adding that she will turn down the SPLM request of nomination call off.
