Official participating delegations, on top of them, Arab League's General Secretary, Amru Musa, began to arrive in Khartoum and the capital town of south Sudan, Juba yesterday. Musa arrived in Khartoum yesterday heading a big Arabs investors' delegation, and will head for Juba this morning along with his accompanying delegation to participate and open the activities of investment conference.
The Arab League's Secretary-General is scheduled to meet with President Omar Al-Bashir to be attended by a great deal of Arab and Egyptian investors before the delegation heads for Juba, where the investment conference will be held, ambassador Munsif, Arab League's Envoy to the south, affirmed.
"The Arab investors' conference will be held with the participation of a great number of businessmen and investors from all Arab states. The Government of South Sudan has provided all facilities to make this conference a success," Munsif said in a statement to reporters.
He noted that investments in south Sudan have developed since 2006 after the implementation of Naivasha, stating that there wasn't any hotel but now there are 82 hotels most of them owned by Lebanese; in addition to citizens from south Sudan neighboring states.
As per investment, he said facilities provided by the Government of South Sudan motivate businessmen to process procedures regarding their projects in two days, pointing out that arable lands shall not be donated; but there shall be rights to utilize them for 33 or 66 years.
Ambassador Munsif indicated that there would be a tour to get acquainted with infrastructure in the town of Juba, and that a group of investors would remain in Juba to tour south Sudan cities like Wau, Raja, Abyei, Malakal, the Upper Nile, and Jonglei, where agricultural development and companies operating in fish-canning are available. Some projects executed by some Arab states would be inspected, he added.
Munsif stated that the Government of South Sudan would offer 20 investment projects in the fields of health, education, animal resources, industry, trade and other areas. "Chances are promising for Arab investors in south Sudan, especially tourism, real estate and various industries projects," he stated.
Worth noting that Palestine takes part in this conference with a delegation made up of representatives of unions, investors, businessmen and a number of officials, according to an invitation to the Arab League made by the General Secretariat.
