Presidency overcomes South Kordofan election crisis, adds 40 MPs to southern Sud

CPA partners have reached an agreement over all the outstanding issues including population census and borders demarcation.
GoSS Presidency Affairs Minister, Dr. Luka Beiong, told Ray Ala'am daily Arabic newspaper yesterday that the Presidency meeting chaired by President Al Bashir and his two deputies has agreed to add 40 MPs to the south in the National Assembly in a step which requires a parliamentary session to amend the election law.
He said that two parliament seats have been allocated for Abyei area besides forming a special committee for the election of the administrator of Abyei and his deputy. He added that the presidency meeting has directed the concerned authorities to start the demarcation in the disputed areas.
Beiong described such step as crucial and necessary for boosting election and referendum, explaining that the Presidency was able during the meeting to determine the candidates for the Abyei Commission head and his deputy as the SPLM will nominate four members while NCP will nominate three members to select one person from each party according to the standards agreed upon in the meeting
On the Human Rights Commission, he said that SPLM has nominated national and neutral figures to defend human rights in Sudan especially with regard to ICC accusations.
He wrapped his speech saying that the two partners are committed to create the appropriate environment for holding fair, transparent and reconciliatory elections in Sudan.
On his part, the deputy chairperson of the National Election Commission, Dr. Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah denied any inclination during the presidency meeting to postpone the upcoming elections in Sudan, instead there was growing keenness to hold the elections on time.
