
Equatoria welcomes supervisors

Equatoria states citizens have given a hero welcome to the new Supervisors and officials appointed by the President of Southern Sudan Government, Dr John Garang De Mabior, early this month in application of the provisions of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the Interim Constitution.
A huge crowd turned in to the Peace Square to receive new Supervisors, Saturday, who stressed the need for cementing the values of democracy and freedom as well as implementing specific programmes on educational, economic and social development, having juba as the starting point.
"We have a specific political, economic an social vision and our concern is to settle democracy and freedoms," Deng Alor, the Supervisor for Bahar Jabal state, told the crowd, adding that a program for eradication of poverty, upgrading educational and implementing developmental programmes would be a priority for the supervisors and administrators until the formation of the southern Sudanese Government in accordance with the southern Sudan constitution.
He reiterated that SPLM as a political party enjoys cordial relations with Africa, Europe, America and the Arab world as well.
The two advisers to the President of South Sudan, Lual Deng and Samuel Abu John Kabashi and the Supervisors of Bahr El Jebel State, Major General Clement Wani Konga and Daniel Awet Akol of East Equatoria State arrived Juba, Friday, while the Supervisor of Western Equatoria State Dr. Riak Machar and Deng Alor of Jonglei State flew to Juba from Rumbek.
Deng and Samuel Abu John told reporters that they expected the political parties and the leaderships of the civil service in the States to work for the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and "promoting the spirit of reconciliation and forgiveness among the people of Equatoria and the South in general".
The Supervisor WES Dr. Riak Machar has directed the Director General to nominate officials and technocrats to move immediately to Yambio as an advance mission to establish their offices and to steer the civil service there.
Dr. Machar was thoroughly briefed on the situation of the civil services in WES. He also met with leaders of the police units in the state.
Danial Awat Arol, Supervisor of Eastern Equatoria State has meanwhile pointed out that it was "easy to fight and difficult to bring peace between two people leave alone the nation."
He appraised the National Congress Party (NCP) role as a very courageous party able to face the national problems and its changes with courage.
In a fresh development, the United Nations Mission UNMIS regional coordinator in Equatoria region has revealed that the road linking Juba to Yei and which has been closed for now over twenty year will be reopened shortly.
The official made the remark in a meeting held Saturday with Bahar Jebel State Supervisor Major General Clement Wani Konga. He said the demining process was underway and that de-miners are fully engaged in clearing mines, though heavy rains was making it a tedious job.
